Deepak Neupane, Nawalparasi : Chief District Officer launched the installation project amid a function in Daunne of the district, on Sunday. In a bid to reduce road accidents along the East-West Highway, convex mirrors are being installed at major road turns in Nawalparasi district. The project would be carried out in two phases. The mirrors are being installed along a 15-kilometre stretch of the highway, from Dumkibas to Bardaghat, as it has witnessed more accidents over past few years. Each convex mirror cost Rs 17,500, according to him. It has been estimated that it would cost around Rs 1 million to install a total of 50 mirrors.
Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary, informed that the initiative was taken after awareness programmed failed to curb road accidents in the district. Convex mirror allows drivers to see vehicles coming from the opposite direction at turns in the road.
